Our story began at the National Asian American Leadership Conference in Los Angeles, CA in March of ’04. Southeast Asian Leaders from all over the United States were part of this conference.
Ken Sem Kong has served God for over 10 years in Youth Ministry, Prayer Ministry, and Church Planting. He has been a part of the City of Long Beach healing process with its racial tension between Hispanic and Cambodians. He has consulted church planters, seminaries, and para-church ministries. He is a speaker on topics related to: Next Gen, The Father Heart of God, and Southeast Asian Urban Culture. Currently, he serves God as the Next Generational Pastor at his home church, Cambodian American United Methodist Church. He facilitates the Thai-Lao-Cambodian Youth Revival, a regional fellowship for the Thai-Lao-Cambodian Churches. God has also given him the responsibility of Directing The Southeast Asian Committee, a national leadership development ministry. As of October 12, 2007 he has taken a leap of faith into full time ministry. Trusting God for his daily provision.
Somneuk ?Mickey? Inthavongdy has lived in Fredericksburg, VA for 20 years. With a BS in Health Education from Liberty University, she spent a year in Bangkok, Thailand teaching ESL and worked as a church planter through the Int'l Mission Board. Mickey also had the privilege of speaking and challenging the youth regarding the sanctity of life through Rock for Life, a pro-life youth organization. She now resides in Sterling, VA and is serving as a worship leader at the Lao and Thai Church. Mickey?s deepest desire in life is to love God, serve people, and reach the world.
Peter Nguyen is currently the Executive Director of Asian American International Ministries (AAIM), a ministry devoted in building ministries and churches for the next generation Asian American community. He has started five business start-ups over the past 5 years as an entrepreneur. Peter works full-time as a marketing consultant for the global leader in electronic payments. He has spent over 6 years serving in youth, college, and young adult ministries in various leadership roles in the Vietnamese American community. He has traveled the states speaking and empowering next generation Asian American leaders. His passion is to serve and mentor next generation Asian Americans in helping them fulfill God's purpose in their life.
Nich Khim is currently serving as the National Director for the Cambodian Southern Baptist Fellowship?s youth organization - Cambodian Southern Baptist Youths and Young Adults (CSBY). He also serves as the Executive Secretary for the Southeast Asian Committee.
He serves in his local church as the Young Adult ministry leader, and enjoys spending time with this group. While his hands seems to be in leadership, his heart is working with young people and helping them expose their God given talents, gifts, and creativity!
Kim Chan currently works full-time as a transportation engineer/planner for PB, a civil infrastructure development firm. On her off time, she volunteers as a youth counselor at her church, serves on the SEAC Board, and runs a scholarship program for WTS (a professional organization encouraging women in transportation).
Kim desires to see God's mercy, justice, and reconciliation reflected in the city and she believes that working with young people is the best way to go about doing that.
It is the melody of the ocean's roar, the sound of steel strings against a wooden plank, and the resonance of silence that keeps her in tune with the Almighty. Elizabeth Chhom leads worship in various settings including her home church, Lakeside Baptist in Oakland CA, and is involved in the New Urban Voices--a ministry that aims to explore contextualized worship among Southeast Asian Americans.
She enjoys long walks, climbing rocks, and anything that involves putting fear in her heart.
Uyen Dang currently serves as camp coordinator for the Capital Vietnamese Christian Fellowship. The organization seeks to reach out to the youth and young adults in the surrounding Northern Virginia, Maryland and Washington DC churches. Through this organization, she and the coordinating committee hope to equip upcoming leaders with the skills and tools to build their home churches. Through their annual summer camp, she has the opportunity to establish relationships with the brightest and talented young adults throughout the east coast. In addition, she serves as the leader for young adults at her home church at Vietnamese Hope Baptist Church in Alexandria.
Bounhom has served as activity coordinator, member of a praise band, and is now currently serving as President of Lao Baptist Youth (LBY). She is also the Laotian Youth Director for Crievewood Baptist Church in Nashville, TN. In addition, she is serving in a committee to plan and implement an outreach event, The International Festival with the TN State Convention and the Nashville Associations. Bounhom has also served through the North American Mission Board in a Multi-Asian Task Force Team to research the needs of the Next and Second Generation. She was also a missionary to Thailand by Collegiate Ministry of MTSU, and the TN State Convention.
Chhut served as counselor and on to the CEC East Coast Youth Coordinator for approximately 6 years. He is married to Sophea with 2 year-old daughter, Lekhana. Chhut and his wife are involved with an urban mission organization called International Teams along side with the Cambodian Evangelical Church (PCEC/C&MA) youth and their second generation ministry now called ?Living Water Church?. Chhut is pursuing one of his childhood dreams by joining a reserve branch of the Air Force with the Air National Guard and hopefully (prayerfully) one day work as a chaplain for men and women who are serving our country.
Nate is currently serving as a pastoral intern at Evergreen Baptist Church of LA (EBCLA) in the college ministry. He also serves as a conference and seminar speaker to various youth and young adult ministries amongst the Asian community. Nate enjoys discipling young leaders and learning about the journey of different people from various backgrounds. His passion is to see a generation of young people live out their life in such a way that will impact this world for the glory of God. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Nate hopes to instill in the next generation of S.E. Asian's, "a church that goes rather than create more churchgoers!"
Panya Sayavongsa is working with the youth at First Laotian Baptist Church in Dallas, TX. He is currently attending Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he is working towards his Master of Divinity degree. He is expecting to graduate in the summer of 2007.
He was recently married in June to his wife Rebecca. His heart is in developing ministries that will reach out and minister to the 1.5 and 2nd generation Asians as well as those in interracial relationship.
Becky is the pianist and children?s Sunday School teacher for First Laotian Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas where she was first introduced to the Laotian community in October, 2002. She attended Dallas Baptist University and graduated with a degree in music in 2006. Becky is also in a worship band of younger people at FLBC that leads part of the music section of Sunday services. She spends her days working at World Relief, a refugee resettlement agency, since July, 2006. Becky has been happily married to Panya Sayavongsa since June, 2006.
Linda Thao is a graduate of the University of California, San Diego. She received her degree in Sociology and is currently working for a publishing company called the Southwestern Company. She came to Christ during her first year in college through InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. While in college, she saw the need of Christ within the Southeast Asian community. Through seeing the struggles of having faith and following Christ, she has developed a passion to see people grow into a deep love and intimacy with the Lord. She loves to pray and knows that she can do nothing without Him. She also loves kids too. :)
